Oyster Shell at Heritage Park

Take a leisurely stroll along the water and observe wildlife at Oyster Shell at Heritage Park. Educational signs are posted along the walkway and there is plenty of parking. It is directly adjacent to the Maritime Aquarium Park. Parking Lot. From the East: Take I-95 South. Take US 7 North via exit 15 and continue 0.21 miles. Take the ramp to Maritime Center, and continue for 0.12 miles. Turn slight left to take the ramp to Maritime Center. Turn left onto West Avenue and continue 0.22 miles. Turn left onto Ann Street, follow for 0.25 miles. Turn left onto Putnam Avenue and follow along waterfront to small parking area. From the West: Take I-95 North. Take the exit 14 to South Norwalk and continue 0.17 miles. Stay straight to go onto Reed Street and continue 0.37 miles. Turn left onto Putnam Avenue.

Paugussett State Forest

Great Quarter Rd. , Monroe, CT 06468.

Jct. of Rte. 34 and 111 in Monroe, take Rte. 34 for 0.1 mi., turn right on Great Quarter Rd. (1.4 mi.) and park at trailhead. Borders Lake Zoar a dammed section of the Housatonic River. Blue blazed trails that follow lakes edge with views of Lake and Kettletown Forest. Hiking, hunting and fishing, boating, mountain biking.

Saint Mary's by the Sea

Eames Boulevard, Bridgeport, CT

Located in the distinctive Black Rock neighborhood. Bring binoculars to watch the birds and wildlife at this site. There is a developed walkway (approximately 1/2 mile in length) for power walkers or those looking for a leisurely stroll, which provide visitors with spectacular views of Long Island Sound and Black Rock Harbor. The site holds historic and cultural interest for visitors to explore. Please contact the Bridgeport Parks & Recreation Department for obtaining a parking permit to visit this site.  From the East: Take I-95 South to Exit 24. At the end of the exit ramp, turn left and proceed approximately .2 miles on Chambers Street. Next, turn right onto Commerce Drive and continue .1 mile. Turn left onto Black Rock Turnpike (which becomes Brewster Street) and follow .6 miles. Take a right onto Fairfield Avenue and continue .2 miles. Turn left onto Gilman Street and follow 1 mile. The entrance is to the right on-street. From the West: Take I-95 North to Exit 24. At the end of the exit ramp, continue straight and travel an extremely short distance, then turn right onto Black Rock Turnpike (which becomes Brewster Street) and follow .7 miles. Next, turn right onto Fairfield Avenue, and proceed .2 miles. Turn left onto Gilman Street and follow 1 mile. The entrance is to the right on-street. On street parking.

Sherwood Island State Park

This 238-acre park combines beach frontage and wooded picnic sites. 9/11 Living Memorial located on Sherwood Point has a view of the Manhattan skyline where the towers once stood. Picnicking, bathrooms, showers, concession, surf chairs, field sports, swimming, saltwater fishing, interpretive program, bird watching, nature center & trail. Nature Center Wed.-Sun. 10 - 4 pm. Charge: Memorial Day – Labor Day and weekends mid April – mid Sept.

Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge

Sheffield Island, Norwalk, CT

Norwalk. Trail explores the history of the island and the importance of island habitats. A tour of the island's historic lighthouse, owned and managed by Norwalk Seaport Association, is available to visitors. A ferry to the island leaves from the Seaport Dock from May through September. Weir Farm
