Penfield Beach is a great place to swim and sun along the Long Island Sound. It offers a long stretch of sandy beach that abuts Rickards Beach. There are charcoal grills set up on the beach for visitor use; remember to bring your own charcoal and matches. There are also swing sets for the kids. There is a nice Pavilion where visitors can purchase snacks if grilling your own food is not on your agenda. Large parking lot. Contact Town of Fairfield for fee schedule. From the East: Take I-95 South. Take the Route 135/ North Benson Road exit 22 and continue 0.15 miles. Turn left onto North Benson Road/ Route 135 and continue 0.22 miles. Turn right onto Post Road/ US-1 and continue 0.21 miles. Turn left onto Beach Road and continue 0.79 miles. Turn left onto Fairfield Beach Road and continue 0.43 miles. From the West: Take I-95 North. Take the Mill Plain Road exit 21 and continue 0.21 miles. Turn right onto Mill Plain Road and continue 0.19 miles. Turn left onto Boston Post Road/ US-1 and continue 0.38 miles. Turn right onto Old Post Road and continue 0.29 miles. Turn right onto Penfield Road and continue 0.67 miles. Turn left onto Fairfield Beach Road. Penfield Beach is free and open to the public, however, from Memorial Day Saturday to Labor Day a beach sticker is reqiuired to park in the lot. Vehicles without a beach sticker may pay a daily fee of $20.00 on Weekdays and $50.00 on Weekends & Holidays at the gate.

Perry's Mill Ponds

Perry's Mill Ponds is a large site with beautiful scenic trails. Launch your canoe and observe the wildlife along the Mill River. Activities:Bird and Wildlife,Boating,Crabbing,Fishing,Historic, Cultural Interest,, Trails, Walkways. Parking Lot. From the East: Take I-95 South. Take the Mill Plain Road exit 21 and continue 0.22 miles. Turn slight right onto Sturges Road. Parking will be on your right, next to the water and the sign for the site is on the left side of the road with hiking trails. Continue driving and you will find more hiking trails on the right side of the road. From the West: Take I-95 North. Take the Mill Plain Road exit 21 and continue 0.21 miles. Turn left onto Mill Plain Road 0.12 miles. Turn slight left onto Sturges Road. Parking will be on your left, next to the water and the sign for the site is on the right side of the road with hiking trails. Take a right onto Sturges Road and you will find more hiking trails on the right side of the road.
