Westport Historical Society - The Wheeler House

I-95, Ex. 17. (203) 222-1424. Built in 1795, in the Italianate style the Wheeler House is listed on the National and CT Register of Historic Places. The house has three Victorian Period rooms and a gift shop. Also on the property is the Bradley-Wheeler Barn, CT's only octagonal-roof, cobblestone barn that chronicles the history of Westport. A large gallery hosts several exhibits each year. Mon. – Fri. 10 – 4, Sat. 12 – 4. Closed Sun.

Rte. 15, Exit 39B. (203) 762-7257. Five 18th and 19th century buildings including two classic center chimney homes, and c.1860 barn and working blacksmith shop, plus colonial garden. Displaying 12 period rooms from colonial to Victorian eras, showing changes in Connecticut home life, the economy, furniture and decorations, 1740-1910. Changing exhibits in the Burt Barn Gallery, and permanent installation of more than 600 tools, plus a toy loft. Betts Store Museum Shop, all items made in USA. Museum/store hours Tues. – Sat. 10–4. Staff guided tours 2:00 pm daily or by appt. Annual Holiday Trains exhibit.
