7:00 pm. Please RSVP. FREEDOM RIDERS is the powerful harrowing and ultimately inspirational story of six months in 1961 that changed America forever. FMore than 400 black and white Americans risked their lives for simply traveling together on buses and trains as they journeyed through the Deep South. The one-hour screening will be followed by a discussion with reporter artist Tracy Sugarman of Westport, CT. Sugarman's recent book, We Had Sneakers, They Had Guns, recalls Freedom Summer of 1964 when thousands of black and white students galvanized together to assist with voter registration by black citizens in the South. On his second day in Mississippi, three young volunteers, Andrew Goldman, Michael Schwerner and James Chaney, disappeared and were found murdered. Bill Eppridge documented the funeral of James Chaney for Life and these photographs are featured in IMAGES 2011.
