The Avon FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE (1963)

09/05/2013

272 Bedford St, Stamford, CT Phone: 203-967-3660.

9:00 p.m. The second in the series of James Bond films, is the film that solidifies all the Bond film elements into a formula. Sean Connery as Bond has nailed down his role as 007 -- accentuating Bond's stylishness and sophistication, while toning down his cold-bloodedness. In FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, the bad guys don't want to take over the world. They want something more mundane -- a Russian decoding device. Assigned the mission of stealing the decoding device are No. 3, former KGB agent Rosa Klebb, and No. 5, Kronsteen, an expert chess player who has plotted every move of the mission. Kronsteen's plan requires using Bond's weakness for women as an element in acquiring the decoding device. Once Bond obtains the decoding device from Russian cipher clerk Tatiana Romanova, SPECTRE muscleman Red Grant is to forcibly take it from Bond and kill him. Though Bond suspects a trap, he can't resist the lure of a beautiful woman. So, flaunting danger, Bond travels to Istanbul to meet Tatiana. The centerpiece of this 007 feature is the thrilling fight to the death between Bond and enemy agent Red Grant aboard the Orient Express. --Paul Brenner, Rovi

We have a second, shorter course of 7 miles for those who do not wish to race 14 miles, and there will be a four hour time limit on the race so that we can have everyone off the water by 1:00 p.m. Boats having trouble making it back by the deadline will be asked to accept a tow or have their boats picked up and returned to the beach. Racers are asked to make a $60 donation. Last year’s participants included an eclectic mix of small craft including fixed and sliding seat rowers, solo and tandem kayaks and outrigger canoes and SUPs. The L2L now starts and finishes at  Shady Beach in Norwalk. Norwalk River Rowing Association is the hosting  organization for the “L2L”.  Registration and payment pages will be set up on -https://www.racemenu.com/events/13900-Lighthouse-To-Lighthouse-Race. The return is along the same course to finish in front of Shady Beach. Staggered start times will be used, grouping boats of similar style and/or speed. Racers typically finish in two to four hours. Following the race, a beach party will be available for all racers and guests of the racers and volunteers. The party will feature hot dogs, hamburgers, chilli, clam chowder and a raw bar.
