Experience the magical and memorable role holidays play in the lives of all readers, especially children, through Pequot Library's Special Collections exhibition of vintage postcards, holiday literature, and caroling music dating back to 1848. Come to the opening reception of Holiday Magic: Selections from the Children's Historical Collection on Thursday, December 14, 2017, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. where light hors d'oeuvres and wine will be served. Beginning at 7:00 p.m., join children's book author and Fulbright scholar Christine Pakkala, MFA, for a gallery tour and a discussion of literary heroines. The exhibition is on view through February 4, 2018 during regular Library hours.

The Palace - The Nutcracker

Connecticut Ballet's holiday blockbuster and perennial audience favorite, 'The Nutcracker ,' returns to the Palace Theatre, 61 Atlantic Street, Stamford for four performances on Saturday, December 16 and Sunday, December 17. Artistic Director Brett Raphael has announced that guest stars Christine Shevchenko, Andrew Veyette of New York City Ballet and Lauren Lovette, Ask la Cour of New York City Ballet will alternate in the roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Her Cavalier. American Ballet Theatre principal Christine Shevchenko will be making her Connecticut Ballet debut with this engagement. Performances are as follows: Saturday, December 16 - 2:00pm & 6:00pm; Sunday, December 17 - 1:00pm & 5:00pm. The professional company will be joined by 85 local children from a dozen local dance schools and academies. Following each performance, ticket-holders may obtain auto-graphs or take photos with the guest artists in the lobby. In addition, audience members may be interested in visiting the Nutcracker Boutique. Dozens of holiday items from collectible nutcrackers to holiday ornaments, children's books and souvenir posters are on sale before, during and after the performances.
