Wilton HIstorical Colonial Cookery and Customs for Kids

11 am - 12 pm. Fresh green peas and peppery watercress were made into a bright and tasty vegetable dish during Colonial times. The Wilton Historical Society's Colonial Cookery and Customs for Kids program on Saturday, June 24 from 11:00 – 12:30 will show kids how to prepare Peas and Watercress Rappahannock. The "reciept" is adapted from Martha Washington's copy of The Art of Cookery, Made Plain and Easy; Which far exceeds any Thing of the Kind yet published... By a Lady, the 1765 edition. The kids will have fun using a mortar and pestle for the puree – no food processors allowed! Museum Educator Lola Chen will show the children the Society's 1750 Colonial Herb Garden and talk about gardens and how herbs were used in cooking.

New Canaan Nature Center Great American Campout!

3:30 pm  Sat to 9:30 am Sun. Spend a unique evening and night here at the New Canaan Nature Center, under the stars and with the night creatures (all harmless). Participants are welcome to set-up their tents in the afternoon between 3:30-5:30 P.M. From 5:30-7:30 P.M., we'll provide a classic camping-style barbecue dinner of hotdogs, grilled corn & chips (with watermelon for dessert). Lemonade and water will be available for all ages; adults are welcome to BYOB. As folks are finishing up the tasty treats from the grill, all are invited to enjoy field games, music and all around fun on the Green! As the sun begins to set, get ready for the night time adventure to begin. We'll fire up the campfire ring and head off into the darkness for a special early summer night hike experience. Upon our return we'll be sure to fill our bellies with some fireside S'mores before dozing off to sleep. In the morning, awake to fog over the meadow, deer browsing nearby and the promise of another magical day! A light breakfast of bagels, juice, and coffee will also be served. Bring your own camp gear and snacks. Access to bathrooms will be available through the night. NCNC has a limited number of tents for rent at $25/tent. Pre-registration by Thursday, June 22nd, is required and space is limited!

12 noon - 4 pm. On Sunday June 25, from 12:00 to 4:00 pm, park staff and Garden Gang volunteers will offer short informal talks in the Sunken Garden and Secret Garden about each garden's history, flowers, restoration, and ongoing preservation. In addition to the talks, visitors can spend an afternoon painting en plein air in a landscape that has inspired artists for over 130 years using the park's free-to-use watercolor supplies! There is no registration for this event – just stop by and smell the flowers!
