On Sunday, January 8, 2012 the Greenwich Historical Society will offer a program: Junior Detective Day: Science, History and fun.   A valuable letter from the Everyday Heroes exhibition at the Greenwich Historical Society has been stolen and replaced by a forgery. You can help find it! In this fun, family-oriented program, kids will visit the Everyday Heroes exhibition, the "scene of the crime," and then employ techniques used by real police to solve the mystery. They'll learn to take fingerprints, try their hands at chromatography and test the chemical characteristics of different compounds in pursuit of the culprit. They'll also learn how to make paper look old and to write with invisible ink. Reservations are required, but you can drop in any time between 1:00 to 4:00 pm. $10 for members; $15 for nonmembers

Hand will perform the music of legendary pianist and composer Horace Silver. Silver was born in Bridgeport and grew up in Norwalk where he was friends with Sally White of Sally's Place. Silver is considered to be of the preeminent small group composers in Jazz history. This concert will pay tribute to a local Connecticut musician who gained international fame through his hard Bop and Soul Jazz compositions.
