Welcome fall with Vines and Vignettes, a graden event presented by the St. Ann School in Bridgeport and media sponsor Connecticut Cottages and Gardens.  Spend the day exploring the beautiful grounds of the historic Rose Cottage, where select Fairfield County landscape architects, nurseries and garden antiques dealers will create more than a dozen vignettes.  Ticket $25 in advance, $30 at the door.  A Gala Preview Party will be held on Friday October 7th.  Call or visit the website for further information.

Start by enjoying a presentation on the future of space flight, followed by a visit to view the night sky through a 22-inch research telescope. Outdoor Arts Festival at the Bruce Museum

The Arts Festival, regularly held on Columbus Day weekend, features fine art including painting, graphics and drawing. mixed media, sculpture and photography. All artists are present thoughout each entire weekend and all works are for sale. The Festivals also offer live music and dance performances, as well as a variety of delicious foods. Sunday, October 9, Noon to 4:00. Event admission includes a visit to the Historical Society's current exhibition Everyday Heroes: Greenwich First Responders, which examines the history of Greenwich's police, fire and emergency medical services using objects, stories, photos and ephemera. The exhibition chronicles the history of first response in the community, recounts some of the town's headline-making disasters and explores the nature of public service. Families will especially enjoy the simulated dispatch center where they can "make" or "respond to" 911 calls and the hands-on gallery where kids can try on professional gear and learn about training to be a policeman, fireman or emergency medical worker. There will be music and refreshments will be available. $10 for members. $15 for nonmembers.
