The Annual meeting of the Nutmeg State African violet show will be held Saturday, October 5thfrom 10-4PM and Sunday, October 6th from 11 to 4PM at Homewood Suites.   Members enter their plants, which are then inspected by three judges who use specific criteria to determine winners in various categories. The entries include not only African violets, but also their gesneriads relatives, as well as flower arrangements in various containers. Beautiful African violets are also for sale. An educational table provides information for raising African violets, and club members are also available to answer questions.

Stop by Earthplace for the 47th annual Norwalk Aquarium Society Tropical Fish Show. See an array of exotic fish, meet veteran fish keepers and bid on tropical fish for your own aquarium at the auction. Saturday, October 5, 9:00am-5:00pm. Saturday's exhibit will feature cichlids, catfish and killifish, among others, and the Connecticut Betta Club's show of various betta fish varieties. There will also be a "Beginning Fish Keeping" informational program with NAS members at 2:30pm. Sunday, October 6, 1:00pm. Join us Sunday for a tropical fish auction. Also up for grabs will be aquarium equipment, and one lucky participant will win the aquarium raffle. The weekend's events are all free for Earthplace members, and free with the price of admission for non-members. Earthplace admission is $5 for children, $7 for adults.

Harvest Festival at New Canaan Nature Center

Held outdoors on the Nature Center's grounds, the event will feature craft beer tastings, live bands, "local bites" provided by area chefs and outdoor games such as cornhole and ping pong.   Open to guests 21 & over, there will be an afternoon session from 3pm – 6pm and an evening session from 7pm – 10pm.  Tickets can now be purchased online or at the Nature Center.  A limited number of tickets will be available at the door. All attendees will receive a tasting mug at the door which they can use to sample a variety of craft beers served by the brewery representatives.
