Work on display will include: the unexpected in a collection of found object jewelry, intricate hand turned wood, exquisite basketry, one of a kind textured bags, woven art pieces, and a unique series of blown and carved glass. Artists featured in the trunk show include: Corey Anderson, Kari Lonning, Janet McKinstry, Sally Shore, Alice Sprintzen, and Adam Waimon. All sales are tax free during this fundraising weekend.

Greenwich Holiday Stroll Weekend 2012

For two days, downtown Greenwich, Connecticut becomes alive with horse drawn carriage rides, carolers, musicians, professional ice sculptors, special performers, LIVE Reindeer and Photos with Santa as more than 80 participating retailers offer special promotions, refreshments and holiday cheer.  The 4th Annual Greenwich Holiday Stroll Weekend will take place Saturday, December 1 from 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday, December 2 from 12 noon to 5 pm. PARKING IS FREE provided by the Town of Greenwich Department of Parking Services. Because there is no charge for parking, shoppers are encouraged to use that money to make a donation to Kids in Crisis at participating stores.

41st annual Heida Hermanns International Voice Competition

The Heida Hermanns International Voice Competition will be on Saturday and Sunday, December 1 and 2, at Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Avenue.  Saturday’s semi-finals are free-of-charge and open to the public, from10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Competitors perform throughout the day for 20 minutes each.  Audience members are free to come and go.  Tickets to Sunday’s finals, from 2 to 4 p.m., are $20 for adults; free for ages 18 and younger.  For more information and tickets, call the Westport Arts Center at 203-222-7070, M – F, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or visit the website. The Connecticut Alliance for Music (CAM) with the support of the Westport Arts Center, the two-day event will transform Westport Town Hall into an opera house, giving talented vocalists, ages 19 to 35, an opportunity to compete for cash prizes of more than $10,000. The competition is named for the late Heida Hermanns, an acclaimed concert pianist who lived in Westport with her husband Artur for many years. This year, Dr. Maxwell, Chairman has been named conductor of the Fairfield Choral Festival, and is a chorus master for the Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra.

The Heida Hermanns International Voice Competition--The goal of the Competition is to give young musicians, aged 19 through 35, support in the early stages of their professional careers. Now celebrating its 41st year, the Competition attracts contestants from all over the world, including many foreign musicians studying or working in the US. Past winners include: pianists Frederic Chiu, Christopher O'Reilly; clarinetists Charles Neidich and Todd Palmer; baritone Christopheren Nomura; flutist David Fedele, and the Alexander Quartet. The two categories of voice and piano alternate every two years. On Saturday, 10 a.m to 4 p.m. you will find the unexpected in this collection of found object jewelry. Each piece is unique incorporating ‘found’ objects - maybe a chunk of a car light, a dollhouse tea pot, the hands of a clock, antique buttons, etc. Just about anything is fair game for this artist's artistic vision. In her collection, Ms. Sprintzen uses traditional jewelry making techniques such as riveting, soldering and sawing, combined with woven beadwork to complete the pieces. Her work is for the woman who enjoys wearing something very special and different, something that will be a conversation piece and will bring a smile to any viewer. It is jewelry meant to entertain and delight.
