The Heida Hermanns International Voice Competition will be on Saturday and Sunday, December 1 and 2, at Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Avenue. Saturday’s semi-finals are free-of-charge and open to the public, from10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Competitors perform throughout the day for 20 minutes each. Audience members are free to come and go. Tickets to Sunday’s finals, from 2 to 4 p.m., are $20 for adults; free for ages 18 and younger. The Connecticut Alliance for Music (CAM) with the support of the Westport Arts Center, the two-day event will transform Westport Town Hall into an opera house, giving talented vocalists, ages 19 to 35, an opportunity to compete for cash prizes of more than $10,000. The competition is named for the late Heida Hermanns, an acclaimed concert pianist who lived in Westport with her husband Artur for many years. This year, Dr. Maxwell, Chairman has been named conductor of the Fairfield Choral Festival, and is a chorus master for the Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra.
