Norwalk Seaport Association Cruise to Sheffield Island

In July visitors can board the Seaport Association's 45-foot C.J. Toth catamaran for a cruise to the island then tour the lighthouse, observe wildlife in their natural habitat in the Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge, hunt for shells along the beach, dine on a picnic lunch, play on the lawns around the lighthouse and just have a good time. The lighthouse is open to visitors for daily tours, however, the tower section of the lighthouse is closed for renovations. Your boat leaves from the Sheffield Island Lighthouse dock located at the corner of North Water Street and Washington Street in Historic South Norwalk. Parking is available adjacent to the dock and the Norwalk Maritime Center Garage. Reservations are not required but are strongly recommended. Round-trip ferry tickets are $25.00 adults ... $15.00 children ages 4-12 ... FREE children ages 3 and younger. Check website for dates and times. Most days the vessel goes out at 11 am, 2 pm and 5 pm. Tickets online or by phone. Reservations suggested.

Fairfield's 4th of July Celebration at Jennings Beach

Fireworks explode just after dark, usually around 9:15 PM, from a barge off of Long Island Sound so the show can be seen easily from either Penfield or Jennings Beaches. Entertainment from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Jennings Beach. Limited Parking: Beach Parking lots can be accessed either with a Season Beach Pass or by purchasing a Daily Pass for $50.00 per vehicle (cash only). Daily Passes will be limited to the first 350 vehicles at Jennings Beach and 50 vehicles at Penfield Beach. A Daily Parking Fee will also be charged to park at the Ash Creek Open Space Parking Lot the day of the fireworks.

A video microscope and touch tank on board enhance observations.
