With Long Island Sound as a backdrop, area residents can enjoy free musical entertainment for all ages throughout the summer. Just pack a picnic and comfortable seating then head for Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk for the First County Bank Summer Concert Series. This year, tribute bands will be featured during the weekly concerts on Wednesday evenings (rain date is the following night). A $5.00 parking fee is charged for cars without a Norwalk beach sticker.  A classic car show begins at 6:00 p.m.6:30 pm Billy Bones Starring in Pirate School – This family show combines both a comic stage show and an on-their-feet action section. New recruits learn well-crafted "Pirate Lessons" on how to stand, talk, laugh, eat, walk, sing and swashbuckle like pirates. Safe Boating Course at The Maritime Aquarium

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. New boaters or boaters who feel they'd benefit from a refresher course on handling a boat safely should plan to attend the Safe Boating Course at The Maritime Aquarium. The course is a requirement in Connecticut for the operator of any motorboat or sailboat over 19.5 feet. This accelerated course prepares boaters and personal watercraft operators for a safe season on the water and earns them a state-required safety certificate. Topics covered include safe and correct boating techniques, navigation rules, legal requirements and safety at sea. Cost is $85. Participants can bring a lunch or purchase one in the Aquarium's cafeteria. (The hour-long lunch break includes the opportunity to explore The Maritime Aquarium.) Advance registration is required. Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk offers Behind-the-Scenes Tour

8:15 a.m. The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk opens its backstage spaces for a rare behind-the-scenes tour. Conducted before the Aquarium opens, from 8:15 to 10 a.m., the guided tour offers unique opportunities to see how the animal-husbandry staff meets the varying food and water needs of some 2,000 resident animals. The tour includes stops at the Aquarium's "fish kitchen," where 18 tons of fish a year is prepared, and above the 110,000-gallon Open Ocean tank, where the dorsal fins of 8-foot sand tiger sharks cut through the water surface. Learn the delicate requirements of a jellyfish "nursery."  And perhaps get the chance to hand-feed the cow-nosed rays. Participants must be at least 10 years old; under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $32.50 ($22.50 for Aquarium members) and includes Aquarium admission. Using books and journaling, assemblage, and a wide-range of collage materials including beads, buttons, fibers, and vintage papers, we will transform old books into one-of-a-kind pieces of art. Mixed media artist Jessica Lynch, will walk children step-by-step through different processes, teaching them a wide range of mixed media and paper crafting techniques including paper-mache, oil spun paper making, as well as learning about the importance of recycling and seeing the magic that can be created from it. Anything goes within this art form, with all the creative adventures bound together within one book.
