Bruce Museum Exhibition. Towards Abstraction, 1940-1985: Brett Weston Photographs from the Bruce Museum Collection.

11/05/2016 to 02/09/2017

One Museum Drive, Greenwich, CT Phone: 203-413-6756.

Throughout his nearly seventy-year career, Brett Weston (1911-1993) was obsessed with abstracted micro-images of reality as well as of cities and landscapes that, having been taken with a long telephoto lens, were flattened and appear virtually without depth. He often combined groups of photographs in portfolios and although only a few portfolios were actually labeled "Abstractions," they all share Brett Weston's signature abstract and flattened style. The works in this exhibition, drawn from the 50 photographs that span his long career, were donated to the Bruce Museum in 2015.
