New Canaan Historical Society New Canaan Reminiscences Around the Cracker Barrel

13 Oenoke Ridge Rd, New Canaan, CT Phone: 203.966.1776 .

3 p.m. In the "olden days," neighbors would gather regularly around the cracker barrel at the country store to share town gossip, ideas and philosophies, a sort of informal exchange of information that the Historical Society program will recall when its own group shares personal memories of New Canaan as they knew it or heard of it dating back to the early 20th century.

Fairfield Theatre Company Presents Andy McKee

70 Sanford Street, Fairfield, CT 06824. Phone: 203-259-1036.

ANDY MCKEE on StageOne--Thursday, March 12th--Doors @ 7:00 PM--Show @ 7:45PM. Andy McKee is a new kind of guitar hero. A finger style player from Topeka Kansas, Andy was discover - not by an agent or talent scout, but by the entire nation all at once. McKee rose to prominence after posting videos of himself performing to YouTube. His video's went viral; most notably "Drifting," from his 2001 album Nocturne, has been viewed almost fifty million times. McKee's appeal is instant and simple. He showed people something they hadn't seen before. His unorthodox and demanding playing captivated and bewildered us; one half musician and the other somehow gymnastic. He taps, drums, slides, and re-tunes his instrument with a placid ease that belies the intensity it takes to do the work of a full band with just one guitar and two hands. Bridgeport Symphony - THE NEW WORLD

910 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport, CT Phone: (203) 576-0263 .

8 p.m. Franz Schubert - Selections from Shubert's Songs; Gabriel Kahane - Selections from The Ambassador; Gabriel Kahane - Crane Palimpsest; Antonin Dvorak - Symphony No. 9 in E minor, opus 95 "From the New World" Eric Jacobsen, Conductor.  Gabriel Kahane Singer songwriter.  Merging elements of Rufus Wainwright's pop flair with Sufjan Stevens' sense of cinematic orchestral arrangements, Gabriel Kahane seems poised to assert himself as this decade's first truely avant-garde pop tunesmith worthy of note. He's emerged as a leading voice among young composers, innovating both classical and pop norms to create a style which, as cliché as it may sound, seems uniquely his own. Adventurous listeners on both the classical and pop sides of the coin are going to find themselves infatuated with Kahane's vision for the future of the craft, if they take the time to give these songs a thorough listen. Klein Memorial Auditorium.
