Fall Festival: A Revolutionary Concept Hosted by Greenwich Historical Society

On Sunday, October 11, 2015--In celebration of the town's 375th Anniversary, this year's Fall Festival will focus on early Greenwich history. Reenactors from the Fifth Connecticut Regiment will demonstrate camp life at the time of the American Revolution and march, fire muskets and display uniforms, flags, crafts and weapons from the period. Visitors may take a hayride along historic Strickland Road; enjoy a family-friendly tour of Bush-Holley House linked to the Fifth Connecticut Regiment; visit the exhibition Greenwich Choices and try their hands at Colonial-inspired crafts. They may also compete in the annual scarecrow-making competition. Registration fee for the competition (in addition to entrance fee) is $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers and includes armature ("the bones"), hay for stuffing, twine and a burlap sack for the head. Celebrate our newest exhibition, ReDress: Upcycled Style by Nancy Judd, and the coming of another fall season, as we explore the cycles of nature. Meet live animals to learn how they get ready for winter and how they'll be ready to greet the spring. See how designer Nancy Judd uses recycled materials to create fashion, and make your own recycled jewelry and crafts to take home. Venture onto the farm to search for wheels and circles on our farm machines and in our barns. Take our zip line for a spin too! Seal Pups" is five-part series meeting from 1 to 1:45 p.m. on Tuesdays from Oct. 13 to Nov. 10. Preschoolers (ages 3 & 4) participate with a parent or caregiver. They get a weekly up-close meeting with a live animal, a story that relates to the week's topic and other activities inspired by marine animals. Cost for the series is $125 for a child and caregiver; $110 for members. Each additional child (with same caregiver), $100; $90 for members.
