May 10-13, 2016--Paul DeRuvo, Bed, Monotype--MONOTYPE: AN EXPLORATION OF SCALE with Paul DeRuvo. Tuesday - Friday, 10am-4pm--4-day workshop limited, limited to 8. This class will be an exploration in the effects of scale on the monotype process. Artists will work up to 30" x 40" combining additive and reductive techniques, pastel transfers, and the unique mark making opportunities presented by working at the scale of life. By creating a collaborative printing environment between participants and the instructor, this 4-day intensive will allow participants to tackle projects that they would not be able to manage on their own. Initial critiques, sketches, and color planning at the outset will help refine the images and push participants to create ambitious and resolved projects. Lastly techniques for seaming, mounting, and presentation of large scale work will all be discussed. All Levels.

Binnnie Birstein, Under the Blue, Encaustic Collagraph--May 14-15, 2016 -- Saturday - Sunday, 10am-4pm--2-day intensive workshop, limited to 8.  This workshop combines encaustic painting with printmaking by creating collagraph plates that use wax to make the printable surface. Participants will be able to experiment with inlaying and incising techniques to create texture and build their images on re-useable Plexi-glass plates. The plates can then be inked with water-based Akua intaglio ink and printed on a printing press. The possibilities of using encaustic to create texture for printmaking are limitless, and producing a printable plate with encaustic generates an exciting visual and artistic journey. All Levels.
