Programs will feature both staff-led and self-guided activities for all ages. Activities will run throughout the time period, so join us anytime to extend and enhance your SM&NC experience. On Tuesday, June 14, 2011 from 10AM to Noon meet John Barricelli, chef, author and host of television's Everyday Baking at the Greenwich Historical Society for a book talk, and signing of The SoNo Baking Company Cookbook.  Hear about his career highlights, favorite recipes and participation in local farmers markets.  Come sample some of his baked goods.  John has been running the  SoNo Baking Company since July 2005.  The event will take place in the Vanderbilt Education Center at the Greenwich Historical Society.  Admission is $10 members and $15 non-members.  Check the website for further information.

Since spring has finally arrived, we'll explore some of our favorite happenings in the forest and on the farm. Through a mixture of self-guided activities and educator-led classes, home schoolers will have a unique opportunity for multi-age learning and can tailor their experience to their interests. Self-guided activities will include Plant Part Jeopardy and Veggie Math in the barn, a spring woodland ecology walk, and tour of our Gather Up The Fragments: The Andrews Andrews Shaker Collection exhibit. A group lunch period will allow home school groups to meet each other and share ideas. Non-participating younger siblings are welcome to attend at no charge. Members & Non-Members: $15 per child; no charge for home school teachers.

Behind-the-Scenes Tour The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk

8:15 to 10 a.m., this guided tour offers unique opportunities to see how the animal-husbandry staff meets the varying food and water needs of some 2,000 resident animals.The tour includes stops at the Aquarium's "fish kitchen," where 18 tons of fish a year is prepared, and above the 110,000-gallon Open Ocean tank, where the dorsal fins of 8-foot sand tiger sharks cut through the water surface. Learn the delicate requirements of a jellyfish "nursery."  And perhaps get the chance to hand-feed the cow-nosed rays. Participants must be at least 10 years old; under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $32.50 ($22.50 for Aquarium members) and includes Aquarium admission. The tour is limited to 25 people, so reservations are strongly recommended. Walk-up tickets will be sold, space permitting.
