On Saturday, June 9 – BooZoo's Canine Carnival, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Join BooZoo, the museum's mascot for childhood literacy, and his furry friends for old-fashioned carnival games, face painting, pet performances, canine cinema and other dog-themed fun that celebrates our relationship with man's best friend. Dogs are welcome at the event from 10 am to noon for crazy canine awards and dog-friendly games. The event also includes a dog walk that benefits the museum's early childhood initiatives. Carnival activities are free with museum admission; entry fee to participate in the dog walk.

Saturday, June 9, 6 – 6:45 pm (ages 3 – 6), 7 – 8 pm (ages 6 and older) Join Animal Embassy as we unravel some of the mysteries of animal communication. We can learn a lot from our animal friends if we listen carefully and observe behavioral cues. Participants will learn to grunt like a hippo, roar like a lion, or trumpet like an elephant. Meet live Animal Ambassadors such as a Solomon Islands monkey-tailed skink, an Arizona Mountain King snake, an Eclectus parrot, an African bullfrog (the second largest species in the world) and a Pink-toed tarantula. Ridgefield artist Suzanne Benton will be sharing tales and anecdotes from her months in India and Bangladesh in 2011. Beyond being busy with making art, exhibiting, performing, leading workshops and re-connecting with old friends in these fabled lands, Benton was also observing and juxtaposing her experiences both present and past from trips in the 1990’s and even the 1970’s. From the sublime to what some might say the ridiculous, she’ll regale her audience with commentary illustrated with photos of the people, land, and art works she created along the way. At the close of her talk, Ms. Benton will perform her newest mask tale, “Hena’s Memorial” from a news story in Dhaka. $10 for members, $12 for non-members.

8th Annual Summer Food, Wine and Beer Tasting event to benefit United Way of Coastal Fairfield County

Stew Leonard’s wine and beer experts have searched the globe and our own backyard to unearth more than 75 summer-worthy sippers to be showcased at this year's annual food, wine and beer tasting event to benefit United Way of Coastal Fairfield County. The tasting will be held Tuesday, June 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stew Leonard’s Grill at Calf Pasture Beach, located in Norwalk, Connecticut. This is eighth year for the event, however 2012 marks the first year it will be held at Calf Pasture Beach. Noted local singer-songwriter P.J. Pacifico will perform live and a Silent Auction and Chinese Raffle will also be held. All proceeds raised will benefit United Way.
