On Saturday, June 14, 2014 the Annual Connecticut Open House Day will take place.  This statewide event, coordinated by the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism is designed to showcase Connecticut's diverse world of history, art and tourism to Connecticut residents.  Last year more than 200 participating locations rolled out the welcome mat to state residents with special incentives such as free or discounted admission, special activities or exhibits and/or free gifts.  Go to the Connecticut website and view all the participating venues and view further information about the Open House Day.

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum will kick-off the summer by hosting an Ice Cream Social on Sunday, June 14 from noon until 4 p.m. In recognition of Flag Day, there will be a patriotic salute to Old Glory led by local scout troops, as well as a wide range of educational, family-friendly entertainment and fun activities. Mini-Tours of the Museum: 12-4 p.m., $5 per person (reduced admission)

Start with a short hike on the grounds to look for signs of local reptiles then get a special evening tour of the new Heckscher WILD! exhibit. Stepping Stones Museum for Children Around the World: Performance Series

2:00 pm. Florida's Amazing Animal Ambassadors – Join Animal Embassy on a journey through Florida, with a diverse group of incredible, live animal ambassadors! We will discover how important each animal is to its habitat, while meeting native species such as an American alligator, a common snapping turtle or alligator snapping turtle, a red-eared slider, a green tree frog and a corn snake. We will also interact with a number of invasive species which have come to dwell in the Sunshine State, such as a Burmese python, Cuban knight anole or green iguana and an Argentine black and white tegu. We will explore how these animals have been introduced to Florida, as well as their impact on the local ecosystem. Animal Embassy allows children to connect with the natural world with this unforgettable, live animal presentation!
