5 p.m. - 7 p.m. In conjunction with the 3rd Annual ArtsFest, Silvermine will be offering a special one-day Drumming workshop. Workshop participants will learn the basics of the Afro-Brazilian drumming style of Northeast Brazil, and be ready to participate in the August 10th parade at ArtsFest with A Tale of Two Nations featuring Maracatu Nação Estrela Brilhante and Nation Beat.   Participants should bring any Brazilian percussion instruments they may have, and/or bells, shakers, and their "basiest" percussion instruments. Open to teens and adults. Instructor: Mestre Walter, one of the leaders of Estrela Brilhante; assisted by Jorge Martins and Scott Kettner.

5th Annual Easton Farm Tour

Saturday, August 10, from 10am to 3pm. This celebration of Easton, a local farming community within Fairfield County CT, is a self-guided tour of Easton farms.  This free event begins at the Easton Firehouse Green, One Center Road, Easton, Connecticut. Here visitors check in and pick up an event map and pass to events and incentives offered by farmers and community organizations at the different locations throughout day. Fun for the whole family! Come and enjoy the many farming delights that Easton has to offer and learn where your food comes from. Enjoy tastings, hayrides, pony rides, living history with 18th and 19th century farm house living and cooking demonstrations, old-time fun and games, petting zoo,  greenhouse tours, fruit  and vegetables fresh from the farm, and pick your own activities. Visit the over 10 Easton farm locations participating in this year's tour.  Learn about 18th and 19th century farm life and experience Revolutionary War food preparation from the Easton Historical Society at the Historic Bradley-Hubbell House Farm where docents in period clothing will be conducting live demonstrations throughout the day. This 2-day weekend workshop, with Will McCarthy and Anthonky Kirk, takes place from 10 am to 4 pm each day, and is open to 8 participants. All levels welcome. In this intensive workshop, participants explore a painterly approach to monotype printmaking. Participants create monotypes based on imagination and memory, and explore color and light by means of glazing and ghosting techniques as well as layering and overprinting. This workshop is an ideal way for painters and printmakers alike to hone their monoprinting technique.

2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Come stroll the grounds and Sculpture Walk, and enjoy A Tale of Two Nations featuring Maracatu Nação Estrela Brilhante and Nation Beat, a combination of contemporary percussion with the music and dance of one of Brazil’s oldest and most respected music groups. Part music group, part Carnival, part dancing parade, Estrela Brilhante’s colorful and vibrant ritual will lead you around the campus. There will be an outdoor concert featuring a full performance of Maracatu Nação Estrela Brilhante’s Tale of Two Nations followed by a parade which will include workshop participants from the School of Art and Norwalk Housing Authority. There will also be exciting hands-on art activities for all ages with Silvermine School of Art Faculty. Not to be missed! The Silvermine Campus will be closed to cars and shuttle busses will be available.
