7th Annual Easton Farm Tour

The quiet hamlet of Easton Connecticut, once the town where Helen Keller lived is hosting the 7th annual Easton Farm Tour on Saturday August 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This free event is fun for the whole family and promises a day of exploration and discovery. The event begins at the Easton Firehouse on One Center Road in the heart of Easton. Here, participants are invited to pick up an event map and learn about all the goodies being offered by farmers and community organizers to hosting this event. Visitors will learn about 18th and 19th century farm life and experience Revolutionary War food preparation from the Easton Historical Society at the Historic Bradley-Hubbell House Farm where docents in period clothing will be conducting live demonstrations throughout the day. Tastings, old-time fun and games, a petting zoo, greenhouse tours, farm fresh fruits and vegetables, pick your own activities plus hayrides and pony rides round out the fun.

The Subourbons are a local band who enjoy playing everything from classic rock, blues, folk to modern music. The members come from various backgrounds and enjoy the camaraderie and casual get-togethers that began in a basement. Intaglio printing is a versatile art form composed of a wide range of techniques and mark making opportunites. This demonstration highlights CCP's intaglio facilities, which allow artists to make a variety of intaglio prints, including engravings, etching, aquatints, drypoints, collagraphs and more. CCP Assistant Printer Elisabeth Walden will introduce basic concepts of intaglio printing, and demonstrate a range of ink application, wiping and printing techniques with different kinds of plates. Alan Ayckbourn's delightful comedy confection, "Bedroom Farce," about the messiness of adult relationships, will play August 25 – September 12. The bedroom is the one room that sees the best, the worst, and the most of us. To the couples in "Bedroom Farce," it's also a dining room, a workshop, a cloakroom, and a boxing ring. Over the course of one very long Saturday evening, in three separate bedrooms, the roles and relationships of four couples, and one almost love triangle, are laid bare, complete with squabbles, bothers, a few bruises, and a hilariously touching epiphany. a 7 p.m. curtain for all Tuesday evening performances, changed from the prior 8 p.m. Tuesday starting time. Kayak to Cockenoe Island

On Saturday, August 29 from 10 a.m. to noon join the Westport Historical Society for their annual kayak tour to Cockenoe Island, a 28 acre island one mile off the coast of Westport.$20 fee per boat, Members: $15 , Rain date: August 30 Meet at: Longshore Sailing School, Longshore Park, Westport Kayak rentals available from Longshore Sailing School, Call 203-226-4646 (single and double Kayaks are available). Intermediate level kayak ability is required. The tour group will land on the island for a stroll and hear about how the Saugatuck River watershed effects the water quality of Long Island Sound and wildlife of the Norwalk Islands. Cockenoe Island is of particular interest because of the current conservation efforts and successful nesting colonies of egrets, herons and terns.
