Mrs. Finch will read Clement Clarke Moore's timeless holiday tale, the enchanting The Night Before Christmas, under the twinkling lights of a Victorian Christmas tree. Children attending the nearby Early Learning Lab at Housatonic Community College have been invited, but the public is also encouraged to bring their pre-school children for a $2 suggested donation to participate in this traditional way to ring in the holidays.

Closer: The Art of Chuck Close in the Context of the 1970s by Kenneth Silver, PhD, Professor of Art History, New York University, Adjunct Curator of Art, Bruce Museum. With a body of work composed almost entirely of portraits, American artist Chuck Close has been astounding us with his artistic verisimilitude for more than four decades. Held in conjunction with the current exhibition Closer: The Graphic Art of Chuck Close, this Goergen Lecture Series will explore key issues in Close's art and career. Monroe Historical Society Hosts Children's Hands-On History Workshop

On Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 1PM to 3:30PM a Christmas Hands-0n-History workshop will be held at the Monroe Historical Society for ages 7-10.  $15 per child.  Space is limited to 15 children.  Call to register.  Children will make Christmas ornaments, gifts, and cookies, there will be enough cookies to have for a snack and take home.  The workshop will be held at the colonial Beardsley House.

On Saturday 7:30 p.m. we welcome our next GBS Conductor Finalist, Eric Jacobsen, the 3rd of the 5 concerts and this historic season as we complete our new conductor search. Each of our conductor finalists are paired with our GBS favorite soloists, most, former winners of the GBS Young Instrumentalist Competition and now international artists. In this concert, we welcome a GBS favorite violinist, Alexander Markov, performing the Beethoven - Violin Concerto, Opus 61, D-major. We are also thrilled to be able to feature the Trumbull High School Concert Choir with the orchestra in some carefully selected pieces that are sure to please this holiday concert audience.Please note that concerts this season begin at 7:30 PM so at the end of each concert, you'll get a chance to meet the conductor candidate for a Question & Answer Session and participate in voting.

In this holiday season of giving, GBS has partnered with the Bridgeport Rescue Mission for the 2013 GBS Food Drive and requesting patrons to bring to the concert a non-perishable food item. The Bridgeport Rescue Mission vehicle and GBS volunteers will be right in front of the Klein as you walk in to accept your donations.
