The final round of the 65th Annual Jenny Lind competition will take place on Saturday, May 18, at 1 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Arnold Bernhard Center, 126 Park Avenue, on the campus of the University of Bridgeport. Twelve sopranos from five different states will compete to become the Barnum Festival’s American Jenny Lind.  The Jenny Lind title includes a $2,000 cash prize and the winner will perform a joint concert with her counterpart, the Swedish Jenny Lind, at the historic Bijou Theatre in Downtown Bridgeport on June 27 at 7:30 p.m. This annual event is sponsored by the Barnum Festival with support from the Norden Club. John F. Stafstrom Jr., a partner with the Bridgeport office of Pullman & Comley, is the 2013 Barnum Festival Ringmaster.

Norwalk Region Tree Festival at Cranbury Park

On May 11, 2013 the Norwalk Regional Tree Festival will take place in Cranbury Park.  The festival showcases an array of environmentally oriented exhibits and offers demonstrations in urban tree care by accredited arborists who dispense their technical expertise free of charge and will, for example identify the tree in your backyard if you bring in a leaf.  A team of German Shepherds trained in human scent detection and woodlands search and rescue has joined the list of exhibitors.  There is no cost for admission, parking, picnic-style food from the grille prepared by the Exchange Club of Norwalk or chances on door prizes.  Call for additional information.
