To many tens of thousands of fans of Les Misérable, Ivan Rutherford is Jean Valjean, as he has performed the role over 2,000 times on Broadway and with national touring companies. Rutherford was nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of Valjean at the first annual National Broadway Theatre Awards held in New York. Other prominent roles he has performed include The Caliph in Kismet, Tony in West Side Story, Lt. Joe Cable in South Pacific, for which he received the Drama-Logue Award, and 2nd Officer Charles Lightoller in the Broadway production of Titanic. Rutherford's musical offerings will include "Music of the Night" from The Phantom of the Opera, "I Dreamed a Dream," "Master of the House," "Bring Him Home" and "Stars" from Les Mis, as well as "Mack the Knife." Rutherford moved to Fairfield in 2000 and quickly became a favorite guest artist of the FCCC. Many of the group's choristers have studied voice with him and continue via Skype after Mr. Rutherford relocated to California. FCCC choristers will join Rutherford on stage for a grand finale. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit FCCC and its scholarship fund. In addition to keeping its tuition affordable, FCCC provides scholarship aid to all families that request it, so that all interested children may participate.
