137 Old Ridgefield Road, Wilton, CT Phone: 203-762-7257.

4 pm -5:30 pm. Emery Roth will focus on place in society defined by our work, specifically the Connecticut brass industry and its collapse. Connecticut's Naugatuck River valley was where the brass industry thrived until the last factory closed in 2013. The talk is derived from Roth's book, Brass Valley: The Fall of an American Industry (Schiffer Books, 2015). The book tells the story of the last working brass mill, how Brass Valley came to be, the men and communities that made Brass Valley and the culture we call the American Dream. The talk is accompanied by vivid photographs of Brass Valley from the book and others taken more recently; the author shares experiences and discoveries made while capturing images and talks about what it means to try to find Brass Valley, a place in time that has not quite vanished. Q&A and book signing after.

Center for Contemporary Printmaking FIGURE AND PRINT/LARGE SCALE

03/12/2017

299 West Ave., Norwalk, CT Phone: 203-899-0606.

This 6 hour workshop will run similar to the regular Figure and the Monotype class but will encourage participants to work on monotypes at or above 22" x 30". Participants can explore bleed prints (prints with no margins ) innovative large scale mark making, and more ambitious approaches to the figure. The workshop will have a live nude model holding only 2-3 poses for the entire length of the class, allowing participants to decide when they are ready to print, and even return to the same pose to develop their image through layering. The freedom and expressiveness of monotype is wonderfully suited to working large scale on reusable plates, and the figure is an infinity engaging subject to inspire work using direct observation.
