On Friday, Septmeber 26, 2014 at 7:30 a film screening:  Hairy Who? & The Chicago Imagists will be shown at the Silvermine Art Center.  Collectively known as the Imagists, they showed in successive waves of exhibitions with monikers that might have been phychedelic rock bands of the era.  This film is the first film to tell their wild, woolly, utterly irreverent story.

One New England Country Parish – Learning to Learn from History. For centuries, the churches and clergy especially in New England were responsible for recording the daily activities, financial transactions, the public meetings, conversions, births, marriages and deaths of the members of the local community.  In essence, they were capturing the history of their town. Easton has benefited greatly from this time honored tradition of maintaining documents and recorded transactions held by the Congregation Church of Easton. The Birdseye's Plain/Stepney Cemetery turns 220 years this year and The Save Our Stepney Task Force is planning a 220th birthday celebration to include an on-site cemetery presentation "Those Who Sleep: Gravestone Art and Prose", Sunday, September 28, 2014 from 1:00-4:00pm. Who carved these old stones, where did they come from, what does their symbolism mean, and how did that symbolism change over time?  Bob Young, former President of the Danbury Museum and Historical Society will present a brief history of Connecticut gravestones and interpret symbols and epitaphs found on the stones in the cemetery. Bob will also speak about the craftsmen who carved these works of art and why this rapidly fading part of our heritage needs to be recognized and protected.
In addition, a self-guided tour of 31 Civil War Grave sites with information about the individual's role in the civil war as well as a snapshot into their civilian life and family history will be available.
