In honor of Veterans Day, Weir Farm National Historic Site will be offering special tours and a gift to all Military Veterans who visit the park on Saturday November 11th between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Although our buildings are closed for the season, we are opening up the Visitor Center, Weir House, Weir Studio, and Young Studio to visiting Veterans and their families. Come visit between 10 am and 2 pm for a tour, and bring your friends and family. Thank you to all Veterans for your service!

11-2. Commemorate Veteran's Day and learn about Stubby the World War I dog, soon to be an animated film in 2018! Learn about interesting facts about WWI and how "doughboys" got their name. Enjoy a family-friendly craft creating your own medals while munching on delicious doughnuts - a popular treat for soldiers. The CT State Police K9 Division will visit at 1pm with state troopers and their K-9 partners. Meet and watch demonstrations of these German Shephard hero dogs. Also learn about the Fairfield Canine Cooperative and find out more information on how to rescue dogs in need. Nov. 11th, 12th & 13th, veterans are free to come aboard The Maritime Aquarium's special "Scenic Coastal Cruises," departing each day at 1 p.m. (Tickets for non-veterans are $29.95, or $24.95 for Aquarium members.) Space aboard the R/V Spirit of the Sound™ is limited, so advance registration is strongly suggested for these 2-hour cruises, which will follow the beautiful Connecticut coastline as Aquarium educators point out historic lighthouses, gorgeous waterfront homes and other sights. Maritime Aquarium SEAL Training Demos with U.S. Navy Seal

Sat., Nov. 11, who better to join in on the Aquarium's three daily seal-training demonstrations than a decorated former U.S. Navy SEAL? Capt. Peter Wikul retired in 2009 after a 39-year Navy career with the honorific title of "Bullfrog 13" as the longest-serving active-duty SEAL. His roles included deputy commander of Special Operations Command South and commanding officer of the Kennedy Irregular Warfare Center at the Office of Navy Intelligence. Wikul will participate in the seal trainings on Nov. 11 at 11:45 a.m. and 1:45 & 3:45 p.m. He actually will be the second Navy veteran in the Aquarium's seal exhibit: in the 1980s, Rasal the harbor seal was trained by the Navy to retrieve objects from the sea floor. Between the demonstrations on Nov. 11, Wikul will be onhand to talk with Aquarium guests about the Navy and his experiences as a SEAL.

Veterans Day Weekend, on Sat., Nov. 11 and Sun., Nov. 12, three military vehicles will be onhand for exploration and photos during "Military Touch-A-Truck." Sit inside a World War II Jeep, a 1950 M38 Jeep and a 1987 Humvee (HMMWV) during the special visits. You can even pop a helmet on for a photo!

New Canaan Historical Society House Tour

On November 11, there will be a tour of five private homes designed by Eliot Noyes, Alan Goldberg, Marcel Breuer, and John Johansen. Vans will leave from The Carriage Barn at 10:45 an return at 4:15 pm. A docent will be on board and docents will also be present in the homes. Tickets are $30 per person, and are limited. You must purchase your tickets in advance from either The Carriage Barn or The New Canaan Historical Society.
