Stamford Museum & Nature Center - Earth Day Family Volunteer Project

04/26/2014

39 Scofieldtown Rd, Stamford, CT 06903. Phone: 203.977-6530.

9 a.m. to noon. Garlic mustard was introduced in North America in the 1860's as a culinary herb. Today, it is an invasive species in much of Connecticut, including the Stamford Museum & Nature Center. Left unchecked, it has the potential to become the dominant plant in the undergrowth of forests, greatly reducing the diversity of all species. In honor of Earth Day, join us for a "garlic mustard pull". The garlic mustard leaves that we harvest will be offered to local food banks to help feed the hungry. Feel free to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy after the event.

This opportunity is open to volunteers age 11 and older (ages 11 - 14 must be accompanied by an adult). We are also looking for adult team captains for the event. Advance registration is required. For more information or to register, please contact Cathryn Oulighan, Volunteer & Community Relations Manager, at 203-977-6530 or coulighan@stamfordmuseum.org
