Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk Marine Life Study Cruises

1 pm - 3:30 pm. Study marine biodiversity from the water's surface down to the bottom for a first-hand understanding of Long Island Sound's interdependent marine life. Participants utilize such sampling techniques as a plankton tow, biodredge, mud grab and otter trawl that may bring up fish, crabs, lobsters, sea stars and more. A video microscope and touch tank on board enhance observations.

Westport Arts Center Pacifica String Quartet

3 - 5 pm. Recognized for its virtuosity, exuberant performance style, and daring repertory choices, over the past two decades the Pacifica Quartet has gained international stature as one of the finest chamber ensembles performing today. The Pacifica tours extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia, performing regularly in the world's major concert halls. Named the quartet-in-residence at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music in March 2012, the Pacifica was also the quartet-in-residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (2009 – 2012) – a position that has otherwise been held only by the Guarneri String Quartet – and received the 2009 Grammy for Best Chamber Music Performance.

Center for Contemporary Printmaking Rinse Print

10 am - 4 pm. Participants in this workshop will learn a technique conceived by Picasso in the early 1960s- epreuves rincees, or rinsed proofs. After printing a heavy deposit of ink, often white, onto the paper, the entire sheet is rinsed with water based dye which adheres only to the areas left blank. Participants will bring in blocks and plates which are ready to be printed and rinsed in this experimental workshop. A variety of printing methods, inks and dyes will be used to create unique and often unexpected results.
