On Friday July 27th at Noon and Saturday, July 28th at 2:30 pm. In 1861, the Connecticut 8th Volunteer Regiment left for training and battles in the Middle Atlantic States and the Carolinas. Among their ranks was an artist, Joseph E. Shadek who recorded daily life among the soldiers in a fascinating scrapbook of watercolor drawings. The Shadek Scrapbook was recently restored and will provide an interesting backdrop for discussion of this band of soldiers. From the training grounds, to the high seas and eventually onto the bloody battlefields, Professor Koch will present a vivid overview of their first year in the United States Civil War. The public is invited to come watch the SWIM Marathon Swimmers cross the finish line at Captain's Cove! The Cove will be alive with activities, music and other entertainment, food and shopping. The awards ceremony will kick-off at approximately 6:30pm after all the swimmers have safely arrived.
