6:30 pm. Discover Silvermine's rich history during this celebratory lecture, by author Samuel Schmitt. Schmitt is the author of the new Images of America book: Silvermine. Signed copies of the book will be for sale after the presentation. Silvermine is known today for its natural beauty, its Arts Center, and home to the former Silvermine Tavern, but few are aware of its rich history. Encompassing sections of New Canaan, Norwalk and Wilton, CT, learn how Silvermine went from a small mill town during the 18th and 19th centuries to a vibrant artist colony, when in the early 20th century, artists came to the area, attracted by the scenery, proximity to the art scene in New York, and the old mills which proved ideal studios.
